C of C women lead Pinehurst Challenge
PINEHURST, N.C. -- Host College of Charleston opened up a first-round lead in the Pinehurst Challenge women's college golf tournament on Monday with a cumulative team score of 3-over 291. Ainhoa Nogales led the Cougars with an individual lead-sharing round of 2-under 70.
Charleston Southern's Olivia Jordan-Higgins led the 11th-place Bucs with a fourth-best individual round of 72.
The final round is today.
Football
Charleston Southern running back Antwan Ivey was named special teams player of the week the Big South Conference.
Ivey joins Liberty quarterback Tommy Beecher (offensive player of the week), andStony Brook defensive back Arin West (defensive player of the week).
Ivey returned a punt 50 yards for a touchdown to put Charleston Southern ahead of VMI, 14-7, early in the second quarter on Saturday -- CSU's first punt return for a touchdown since 2006.
Volleyball
Charleston Southern's Amanda Hill was named the Big South Conference volleyball player of the week.
Hill, a junior from Moncks Corner, posted three double-doubles and three 20-kill matches to lead Charleston Southern to a 3-0 record in Big South play, including wins over Coastal Carolina and UNC Asheville.
