Election Day debate planned for gubernatorial hopefuls
COLUMBIA -- The S.C. Natural Resources Society has invited the field of 10 Republicans and Democrats vying for governor to debate their ideas about growing South Carolina's economy while protecting its environment.
The Election Day debate will air at 8 p.m. on ETV and be streamed online at www.scetv.org/candidatespotlight.
The debate will take place at the Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College in the Rocquemore Auditorium from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tony Bartelme, special projects reporter for The Post and Courier, will serve as a moderator for the debate.
Participating are Republicans 3rd District U.S. Rep. Gresham Barrett, Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer, state Sen. Larry Grooms of Bonneau, state Rep. Nikki Haley of Lexington and S.C. Attorney Henry McMaster; and Democrats Columbia attorney Dwight Drake, state Sen. Robert Ford of Charleston, Charleston attorney Mullins McLeod, S.C. Superintendent of Education Jim Rex and state Sen. Vincent Sheheen of Camden.
Gov. Mark Sanford is term limited and cannot seek re-election.
