Sailor dies after being shot
A sailor who worked at the Naval Weapons Station died Saturday morning, just hours after he was shot at a Berkeley County apartment.
Branden Michael Pease, 20, was at a friend's home in the Ladson area around 10:30 Friday night when the shooting occurred, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office.
Pease was taken to Trident Hospital, where he died around 3:15 a.m. Saturday.
Deputies on the scene arrested one of Pease's co-workers, Darell William Sohm, 22. His address is listed at Ashley Town Center Drive.
Sohm, also a sailor assigned to the Weapons Station, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter. He is being held at the Hill-Finklea Detention Center while he waits for a bond hearing.
The sheriff's office is not releasing any more information on the circumstances surrounding the shooting, but the charge of involuntary manslaughter suggests Pease's death may have been an accident. The incident is under investigation by the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office and the Coroner's office.
Results of an autopsy on Pease are pending, according to Bill Salisbury, chief deputy coroner for Berkeley County.

The incident area is quickly becoming known as a high intensity drug area frequented by transient personnel.
The Berkeley County Sheriff's Department narcotics officers have been called numerous times to residences in that area and still the crime rate is going through the roof.
Many retirees who have lived in the area for decades are afraid to leave their homes after dark and still little action from the high sheriff.

As the article stated, the incident is still under investigation. Let's not put all the 'drug activity' eggs into the basket until the investigation is complete. In fact, drugs haven't even been mentioned in the article so why is this subject even being brought up?

Probably just another "playing with a loaded gun" accident. When will people learn that guns are not toys?

If military personnel were playing with loaded guns, alcohol had to be involved. I just can't see it. Maybe something else happened here.

they had been playing with the gun all night unloaded, and the owner of the gun was putting it away for the night, and when he puts it away he loads it, but he set it down and somebody else grabbed it while he left it sitting there for a min
