You would think a seven-bedroom, 5,800-square-foot home with elevator, Brazilian Ipe hardwood and cast-iron inlaid front door would stand out.

But this is Indigo Island Reserve, a secluded Hanahan neighborhood tucked between marsh and the Goose Creek Reservoir.

"We've built six homes in Indigo Island," says Thomas E. Priester, a custom contractor. "That's the funny thing, people don't know it (Indigo Island) exists."

Yet the island, reachable by a short causeway, is less than two miles from Northwoods Mall.

One of the newer residences is the three-story home at 1752 Indigo Island Drive, which is the main street in the somewhat long, narrow neighborhood. While eminently roomy, the dwelling does not look grandiose. It's surrounded by an ample third-acre yard, and there are views of woods and lowlands.

The $1,195,000 sale price is downright unassuming in a high-end market where similar-sized houses might run in the mid- to high-six-figure range.

Purchasing prospects are "families and retirees," says Troy Watson, real estate sales and marketing specialist with Coldwell Banker United, Realtors and the listing agent at 1752 Indigo Island Drive.

"We have found a lot of people move from Crowfield to this neighborhood," Watson says. "People are out looking for a home and when they see this, they can't find one better."

Hardwood floors dominate, from the chic ironwood decks to Brazilian cherry inside. Crown molding and wainscoting are everywhere, starting in the entry foyer and dining room. Gas fireplaces grace the living room and other locales. A washer and dryer highlight the oversized laundry.

The modern kitchen is anchored by an island with six-burner gas stove. There's also a double oven and warming drawer, microwave, built-in refrigerator, granite countertops and tile backsplash. A front room, highlighted by a coffered ceiling, can be used as an office.

Flights of stairs lead to the top floor, where bedrooms are located.

The master suite has a tray ceiling, sitting area and bay windows framing doors opening onto a porch. The travertine-tiled master bath sports a jetted tub, shower with rain head and body sprayers. Bedrooms are large. In fact, all seven have walk-in closets. The top floor also has a movie room complete with theater-style seating, projection television and a popcorn maker.

There's a two-bedroom lower level with kitchen, bathroom and doors to the backyard. The space can be used as a mother-in-law suite. "It's 100 percent self-sufficient," Prister says. Off the suite is a two-car garage. Extra wide parking areas are split by stairs to the main floor.

While remote, Indigo Island Reserve is not hard to reach. "We are surrounded by commercial," Watson says not just shopping but service facilities such as Trident Medical Center.

To get to 1752 Indigo Island Drive, take Interstate 26 toward Columbia, exiting at Ashley Phosphate Road. Turn right on Ashley Phosphate and continue to Rivers Avenue. Turn left on Rivers.

Across from the Northwoods Mall entrance, steer right onto Eagle Landing Boulevard. Follow the boulevard for about a mile, then turn right at the sign to Indigo Island Reserve. At the terminus, turn left on Indigo Island Drive. The house is on the left.
