Thunderstorms moving into Lowcountry

Friday, May 29, 2009

A line of strong to severe thunderstorms is moving eastward into the Lowcountry, the National Weather Service reported at 5:30 p.m.

"It's pretty much knocking on the door of Hilton Head right now," meteorologist Jonathan Lamb said.

Lamb said there are numerous reports of nickel-size hail in the Jamestown area in Berkeley County.

Other areas in Berkeley, Beaufort, Charleston, Colleton and Dorchester counties are expected to experience a significant amount of lightning, rain, some hail and winds gusting as high as 60 mph in isolated areas, Lamb said. He said most areas will see gusts of about 25 to 35 mph, though.
