State's law officers to compete in bomb squad contest
BOWMAN - It's going to be a race against the fuse for some South Carolina law officers.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and the Threat Management Group are hosting the first South Carolina Bomb Squad Olympiad on Wednesday.
Organizers say they hope the event will showcase what bomb technicians can do. The event will also be a training exercise so attendees can hone their skills in preparation of actual emergency calls for service.
Participants will take part in a variety of events, including a relay race that involves getting in and out of a bomb suit. Experts will also test their ability to use a bomb robot.
Teams will work to extract a suitcase containing a mock bomb during an exercise called "The Hook and Line."
