Oglesby Europe-bound
By Travis Sawchik
CLEMSON — Terrence Oglesby is leaving the Clemson men's basketball team for Europe.
Oglesby, the Tigers' third-leading scorer last season, has elected to forego his final two years of college eligibility to explore a professional career overseas, according to multiple reports.
Oglesby's father, Tony, played in Europe, and Oglesby, born in Norway, played for the Norwegians in the FIBA under-20 championships last summer.
The shooting guard is the third starter Clemson coach Oliver Purnell must replace, following the graduation of swingman K.C. Rivers and forward Raymond Sykes.
Oglesby, who often hurt opponents with his long-range shooting, occasionally hurt the Tigers by letting his emotions get the better of him.
Oglesby's last minutes playing for Clemson were sour ones.
In March, he was ejected from the Tigers' first-round NCAA Tournament loss against Michigan for elbowing the Wolverines' Stu Douglas early in the second half. Barring a change of heart, it marked his last game as a Tiger.
While his oncourt temperament was uneven, Oglesby's shooting will be missed, as he made a team-best 92 3-pointers last season, shooting 38.8 percent from long range. The 6-3 guard combined with Rivers to make 161 of Clemson's 256 3-pointers.
Purnell and Oglesby were unable to be reached for comment Tuesday night.

Were gonna miss TO! LOL!
all those wild shots he would take from anywhere only to get sent to the bench with that stupid look on his face. Classic! Can't even imagine TO making it, even in European ball. bad move bonehead. . . .

Play basketball for free or get paid 500K to play?? Thats a tough one. Would like to see how many of these people calling TO's decision "stupid" or "boneheaded" went to their boss and said..."you know what, as much as I like getting a paycheck, i think i'll just work for free."
TO can make a great living playing a game and he is stupid for leaving? I'll need that one explained to me.

I totally agree with softbatch. Come on guys, have some class and wish the guy the best. Sounds like someone's might be a little jealous he's gonna get paid bank to go play in Europe. This is a win-win for everyone except those who wanted Oglesby back next year. Now Clemson has one more scholarship, TO is happy, and the fans who didn't like him can move on.

As a Clemson fan, I can't decide whether this will help or hurt us.
On one note the guy was deadly from outside, but there were many times he hurt us more than he helped us.
Luckily Purnell has recruited well, and with the emergence of Andre Young as a three point threat I think we will be fine without Ogelsby.
Thoughts?
Wish him the best.

I don't think its hurts as much as some people might think. He was a liability on defense and if his shot was off, he was of little use. Opposing defense will be able to play more zone, but with Young and Smith getting better and Jennings coming in, I don't think we'll see a drop off at all.

robbybobby, Horn has us headed in the right direction and we're on our way, but you have to admit Clemson is a little ahead of us as far as righting the ship on their basketball program. We were fortunate this year with the division down like it was to grab a share of the division title. I'll take it any day, but I still expect a whole lot better out of our basketball program.

Half of the LA Lakers roster is filled with guys who played in Europe, about 15% of the NBA players played there, and the #2 pick in June's draft is currenlty playing in Europe.
Keep'em coming coots.
