Shine's arts & music festival

Shine, a restaurant in the Upper King district, is celebrating its opening with its first arts and music festival. It will feature a slew of local artists 2 p.m.-2 a.m. Saturday. The music lineup includes The Soul Mites, The Shooting Darts, The Drop, Dusted Silver, DJ Brayks and DJ Joeski. Art, presented by Margo Kaufman Gallery, will feature the works of Kaminer Haislip, Carl Janes, Daniel McSweeney, Kevin Hoth, Ben Hollingsworth and Ishmael.

Shine also will be open for lunch hours (11 a.m.-2 p.m.) beginning Tuesday. The restaurant is at 58 Line St. downtown. Call 724-6789.

Roller Derby "Red, White, Black & Blue" game

The Lowcountry High Rollers will play the Charlotte Roller Girls B Dazzlers at 6 p.m. Sunday at McAlister Field House on The Citadel campus. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door; kids under 10 free. A $2 military discount is available with ID at ticket outlets and at the door. Food and alcohol will be available for purchase. Free Bluegrass and County Music Hoedown

Feeling a little overwhelmed by Spoleto? Then take a road trip to Santee, where the 7th Annual Lone Star Bluegrass and County Music Hoedown will begin tonight and end Sunday at Lone Star Barbecue & Mercantile. The family-oriented event is free to the public.

Ten bands plus an "Open Stage" session will provide this year's entertainment. Lexington's Carolina Country will get things started 6:45-9 p.m. tonight inside the restaurant.

Christopher O'Riley bridges pop and classical music

Composer/pianist Christopher O'Riley makes his Charleston debut Saturday at the Music Farm during the opening weekend of the Spoleto Festival. The performance is co-sponsored by the College of Charleston's School of the Arts.

O'Riley, an artist, concert pianist and NPR and PBS national media personality, will play original arrangements of popular artists Radiohead, Elliott Smith, Pink Floyd, Nirvana, Tori Amos, Nick Drake and more. His two-set live performance will feature his upcoming album's unreleased material mixed with his most famous work. He recently performed Nirvana's "Heart Shaped Box" on "The Late Show With David Letterman" to launch the digital single release available on iTunes.

O'Riley hosts the popular program "From the Top," broadcast on NPR and PBS.

'Moments of Joy' theater show

After a celebrated run in February that received nightly standing ovations and rave reviews, "Moments of Joy" returns for Piccolo Spoleto's Stelle di Domani series. This original, hilarious and moving cabaret of stories and songs is written and performed by Joy Vandervort-Cobb, one of Charleston's most creative comedic minds. Directed by Broadway veteran Maida Libkin, "Moments of Joy" presents the honest and revealing adventure of one woman's life. Audiences will share her experiences of grace, forgiveness and healing as she involves them in the most precious moments of her life.

Tickets are $15 and are on sale at Ticketmaster.com, the Gaillard Auditorium and at the door. At Theatre 220 in the Simons Center for the Arts at 54 St. Philip St. downtown. The 5 p.m. shows are Monday; May 29; and June 3, 4 and 6. The 8 p.m. shows are Friday-Sunday, May 28 and 30, and June 5.
