Charleston to lose three Chrysler dealerships
By John McDermott
SC dealers losing Chrysler franchise
Here are the 11 Chrysler dealership locations in South Carolina that are losing their franchise agreements with the automaker.
Hoover Chrysler Jeep, 2250 Savannah Highway, Charleston
Hoover Dodge Inc. 200 Trolley Road, Summerville
Strom Altman Dodge Inc., 2049 Remount Road, North Charleston
Superior Motors Inc., 835 Five Chop Road, Orangeburg
Dick Smith Chrysler-Jeep of Aiken, 136 Jefferson Davis Highway, Aiken
Floyd Motor Co., 144 S. Ron McNair Blvd., Lake City
Mullins Chrysler Dodge Jeep, 3391 Highway 76 East, Mullins
Edwards Auto Sales Co., 3440 Blue Ride Blvd., Walhalla
Lancaster Dodge Chrysler Jeep Inc., 1277 Great Falls Highway, Lancaster
Meggs Chrysler Jeep Dodge, Highway 15-401 Bypass, Bennettsville
Raceway Chrysler Jeep Dodge, 900 E. Bobo Newsome Highway, Hartsville
Chrysler LLC will terminate franchise agreements with three of the seven Charleston area locations that sell its cars and trucks as part of a bankruptcy restructuring plan.
Strom Altman Dodge at 2049 Remount Ave. in North Charleston and two Hoover Chrysler Dodge dealerships — one at 200 Trolley Road in Summerville and 2250 Savannah Highway in West Ashley — will lose their franchise agreements.
Chrysler filed papers with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York on Thursday to terminate the deals. The automaker plans to eliminate 789 of its 3,200 dealerships would close at least 14 stores in North Carolina and 11 in South Carolina.
Mark Hoover of Hoover Chrysler Dodge Jeep, which will keep its other Summerville store and a Moncks Corner location, said it was a difficult morning at the family-owned dealership.
"It's a big deal for the economy and a big deal for the city for sure," he said. "I don't think anybody is prepared ... to be relieved of your franchise until it actually happens."
He said Hoover Chrysler's view is that it lost one dealership because the Trolley Road site will be effectively combined with the other store on nearby Marymeade Drive. He said the company's Savannah Highway property will remain as a car business.
Strom Altman, owner of Strom Altman Dodge, declined to discuss Chrysler's decision Thursday morning.
"I don't want to comment on it at this point," he said.
The Rick Hendrick Dodge and Rick Hendrick Chrysler Jeep stores at 1468 Savannah Highway in Charleston and at 8333 Rivers Avenue in North Charleston, respectively, will keep their franchise agreements.
"We're very excited to be one of the dealers going forward," said Doug Thompson, general manager of Rick Hendrick Dodge in Charleston.

I found the time to get rid of the dealerships. Here is a quote from a news source:
The company, in a motion filed with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York, said it wants to eliminate 789 dealerships by June 9.
Wow that is quick! What happens to their inventory? Will Chrysler take the vehicles back?

I'm puzzled....its about time Hoover got their what...? And why is it about time they get whatever it is some of ya'll are talking about?
You do realize that a good number of people, in addition to the Hoovers, will be affected by this, right?

Yes many people will be effected by this, most of which are the customers that get taken advantage of by Hoover. Take Marathon and Gene Reed with you. Load up momma's fishing cars on the way. We have no shortage of scam artists, so I think we will be ok.

Well, meow, you might be OK, but a lot of people who were employed by these various dealerships have lost their jobs.
I am curious as to how, specifically, customers were taken advantage of by Hoover.
I can tell you specifically how we were "scammed" by Rick Hendrick. We were absolutely assured that the work on our car would be done at a specific time. We were planning to leave town later that day. We specifically asked them to make sure they had the needed part before we left the car. They told us they had it, no problem, piece of cake..blah blah blah...they could get to it faster than anyone else...more blah blah..
Guess what? They did not have the part & they waited too late in the day to get it from elsewhere.
We could not leave until the next day. And they refused to take anything off of the bill. They wanted the job & lied to make sure we didn't go somewhere else. I never went back there. That was 9 years ago.

HOOVER IS BY FAR THE WORST DEALERSHIP I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH. FROM WHAT I WAS TOLD BY ANOTHER HOOVER EMPLOYEE THAT AS OF FEB OF THIS YEAR MOST OF THE EMPLOYEES HAD ALREADY FOUND OTHER JOBS. I AM NOT HAPPY THAT SOME ARE LOSING THEIR JOB, BUT I AM HAPPY THAT HOOVER WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO LIE, CHEAT AND STEAL FROM ANYONE ELSE. HOWEVER,
ABITSKEPTICAL, I UNDERSTAND YOUR FRUSTRATION WITH DICK HENDRICK. I SIGNED PAPERWORK AND PUT A DOWN PAYMENT ON A CAR THAT WAS TO BE DELIVERED TO ME FROM A DICK HENDRICK DEALERSHIP IN NC THE FOLLOWING MONDAY, WELL MONDAY CAME AND I DIDN'T HEAR ANYTHING AS I WAS PROMISED, WHEN I CALLED I HAD TO LEAVE A MESSAGE AND ABOUT 2 HOURS LATER, THE SALES MANAGER CALLED AND SAID THAT THE CAR I PUT A DOWN PAYMENT ON AND SIGNED THE PAPERWORK HAD ALSO BEEN SOLD TO SOMEONE ELSE, SO THEY WERE NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO DELIVER AND I HAD TO SETTLE FOR ANOTHER CAR THAT WAS ON THEIR LOT......NEEDLESS TO SAY...THEY WILL ALSO SCAM, LIE, CHEAT AND STEAL FROM YOU. I AM ENJOYING THE CAR THAT I ENDED UP GETTING, BUT THE BOTTOM LINE IS THEY SOLD A CAR THAT THEY COULDN'T DELIVER. I DON'T THINK THAT THERE ARE MANY DEALERSHIPS OUT THERE ANYMORE THAT DON'T PULL THE SAME BULLLLLLLLSH*&

As if anyone in his right mind was going to buy a Chrysler product now that the UAW will be sitting on both sides of the table. With those clowns controlling the company, it shouldn't be more than 2 years before Chrysler is history. Meantime, count on even more of your tax dollars being thrown into the Black Hole to keep these guys afloat. Even Iaccoca couldn't save these folks from their own greed (remember the Job Banks) and their ineptitude (not to mention Chrysler's sterling reputation for quality products.) What a shame. Back in the 60's, Mopars were gluteus maximus-kickin machines. Not to worry, though. Saw today where GM is going to be importing Chinese cars as a way to keep their own head above water. Ford, clearly, will be the last (domestic) man standing.

One can only hope that there will be less advertisements on the radio and TV. I change the station whenever ANY of them come on, especially that wailing female for Marathon Chevy.
