Hair and fashion show at Avondale

"Through the Decades," Avondale's first hair and fashion show and boutique walk will begin at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Avondale shops on Magnolia Road in West Ashley. The show will feature hair styles from Strawberry Blonde Salon, clothing and accessories by Consigning Women, Wink and other designers, drink specials from Voodoo Tiki Bar & Lounge and desserts and coffee from Alchemy Coffee.

Transcendental Meditation lecture

Attend a free introductory lecture on The Transcendental Meditation Program at 7 p.m. Monday at the Charleston County Public Library, 68 Calhoun Street, Charleston. www.tm.org or call 452-5453

The lecture comes after a recent benefit concert at Radio City Music Hall by Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Donovan and others that benefited the David Lynch Foundation, which funds teaching transcendental meditation to school children around the world.

Ballet Theatre's 'The Magical Mystery Tour' with One Flew South

"The Magical Mystery Tour" is Charleston Ballet Theatre's critically acclaimed journey through the songbook of the The Fab Four, featuring dance interpretations of more than 20 classic Beatles' hits. The one-night-only event is at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center, with a post-show concert by Nashville recording artists One Flew South performing its own hits along with The Beatles' classics.

Tickets are $41 for adults and $26 for students and include both the dance and the post-show concert. Tickets can be purchased by calling CBT at 723-7334, the Coliseum Box Office or by visiting www.ticketmaster.com.

"Get Fresh with the Locals" at the new farmers market

The much awaited re-opening of the Mount Pleasant Farmers Market on the grounds of Moultrie Middle School on Coleman Boulevard will be from 3 p.m. to dusk Tuesday.

At the heart of the market will be two new pavilions housing farmers and food vendors, an open-air plaza, plenty of green space and seating areas.

A wide array of vendors will kick off the new season. The market will be open every Tuesday until Oct. 20.

WEDNESDAY

Palmetto Acoustic Open Mike Challenge

Beginning at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Muddy Waters Coffee Bar in West Ashley, will host the monthly Palmetto Acoustic Open Mic Challenge. Aaron Levy, of the Charleston-based band White Rhino, will serve as emcee and one of the judges. He will be joined by guest judges Pam Barnard of the singing duo the Barnard Sisters and NAB Internet Radio DJ Ian May. The evening will feature 15 artists each performing two songs. The judges will select the top three artists to perform one song in a finals round. The monthly winner will receive a cash prize and a spot in an event held in November.

Free blues festival in Kiawah

The fifth annual "Blues By The Sea" festival will be 2-8 p.m. Saturday at Freshfields Village Green in Kiawah Island. Featured performers will be Davis Coen (www.daviscoen.com), Bill Lupkin & the Chicago Blues Coalition (www.billlupkin.com), Larry Garner (www.myspace.com/larrygarnerbluesband) and Travis Moonchild Haddix (www.travishaddix.net).
