Dickerson gets death penalty

William Dickerson has been sentenced to death for the 2006 murder of Gerard Roper.

It was the first time the death penalty has been give in Charleston County in more than a decade. The last death penalty case tried in Charleston County was in 2002 but did not result in a death sentence.

Ninth Circuit Solicitor Scarlett Wilson said she was grateful for the verdict and said it was merited because of the horrible nature of the crime.

Wilson said it's an important day for the community but "it's not a day of celebration."

Gerard Roper's mother, Shareen Roper, said she had faith in the system and the verdict came as a relief.

"I just want to say thank you to the solicitor's office and everyone who helped get this guilty verdict," she said.

She also reached out to Dickerson's family. "I know they've taken a loss just like i have and it's not a great feeling."

Justice I say...
It wont bring back Mr.Roper but you reap what you sow Dickerson.
Maybe now the family can have some type of closure.

A one-sentence report, and the P&C STILL manages to throw in an extra word that does not belong.

"has been sentenced him to death..."

Wow. Just wow.

And now it has been fixed. When can I pick up my check for editing the story since the editor decided to let it be posted without actually reading it?

I'm not a death penalty supporter, but sometimes a crime is so heinous that a death sentence seems appropriate. This is definitely one of those times.

It's nice to see Mr. Roper's mother's gracious comments. I hope this outcome gives her some comfort...

**Wow. Just wow.**

Really? This is all you have got? A MAN was sentenced to DEATH and you are worried about an extra word in a story?

Could you be a little more superficial?

Get a life...you must not have one if this is how you fill your time.

two peas,

Personally, I do not even consider this piece of trash a man. Or even a MAN as you call him. He deserves to die.

When I made my original comment, someone from the P&C had written one sentence as a "Breaking News" item. One sentence, and it wasn't even grammatically correct. There is just no excuse for that.

Well, Mr. Dickerson, I guess you've carried on the family tradition, ey? Like father, like son. Except you improved on the legacy, because your father only got life! I'm sure he'd be proud of you.
