School reaching out in community
James Island Christian School students will visit nursing homes, make baby blankets and clean yards Friday for Community Service Day.
The school has set aside all other activities and encourages parents to spend the day with their children, helping them learn the importance of service. Among service projects planned are: first and second grades, making baby blankets for the Florence Crittenton Home and other agencies; third and fourth grades, making gifts for nursing home patients and singing for patients at various nursing homes; fifth and sixth grades, building and grounds work at Camp St. Christopher on Seabrook Island; seventh and eighth grades, cleaning yards and homes for Hospice of Charleston patients; ninth to 11th grades, cleaning and grounds work at Wannamaker County Park; and 12th grade, creating a sidewalk and doing other grounds work on campus.
For K-4 and K-5 classes, service day will be Thursday. Pupils will collect and sort canned goods for the James Island Food Bank, which is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
