Dorchester 2 names finalists for teacher of the year

The Dorchester School District 2 has announced its five finalists for 2009 Teacher of the Year.
The nominees are: Dr. Minnie Blackwell, an eighth-grade science teacher at Alston Middle School; Wayne Helmly, a chorus and piano teacher at DuBose Middle School; Anna Musselman, a seventh-grade science teacher at Rollings Middle School of the Arts; Debra Runyon, a health and physical education teacher at Oakbrook Middle School; and Jennifer Wilde, fourth-grade gifted and talented teacher at Beech Hill Elementary School.
A final selection committee comprised of community members and educators will interview the finalists in April. The 2009 district Teacher of the Year will be announced May 7 at a Teacher Appreciation Week event at Summerville High School.

My vote is for Jennifer Wilde. All five of my children have attended public schools and Ms. Wilde stands out as one of our favorites. Exceptionally dedicated; engaging and genuinely interested in her students!
