Special council election Tuesday
SEABROOK ISLAND — A special election Tuesday will fill a town council seat left vacant by the Dec. 31 death of Councilman Thomas Flynn.
Three people are seeking the seat, which will be contested again during regularly scheduled municipal elections in November. The candidates are Wayne Billian, Jerry Cummin and D. Thomas Prevost, according to the town web site.
None have served on council previously.
Flynn, a former Property Owners Association president who had served on council since 2005, was re-elected to council in 2007. Seabrook council members and the mayor serve two-year terms.
Voting will take place from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday at Seabrook Island Town Hall. Voters must have registered before Feb. 28.
The last day to vote absentee is today, by 5 p.m., at the Charleston County Board of Election and Voter Registration office. For information on absentee voting, call 744-8683.
