Man jailed after being shot by trooper

LEXINGTON - A man has been jailed after he was shot by a South Carolina trooper he tried to run over with a car.

State Law Enforcement Division arrest affidavits say 42-year-old Gregory M. Crolley of Swansea suffered gunshot wounds to the head and hand last week in Swansea.

The State newspaper reported Crolley was jailed Tuesday on two counts of assault with intent to kill.

Authorities say Crolley was a passenger in a car that was stopped March 16 on suspicion of drunken driving. They say Crolley got into the driver's seat and tried several times to hit Trooper Drew Ledbetter and Crolley's wife, Amelia, who has been charged with DUI.

SLED says Ledbetter fired when the car approached him.

Public Safety Department spokesman Sid Gaulden says Ledbetter has returned to active duty after the investigation.

Shame the Trooper didn't just "shoot to kill". Would have saved us a lot of money. And no, I have not one ounce of sympathy for losers like Crolley.

I think trooper should carry rocket-propelled grenades to take out scum like this idiot Crolley. Nothing like an RPG to the face to teach him a lesson or two!

The title of this news article is misleading... It makes it sound like it is the troopers fault, when in fact it is the other way around.. BIAS for you...

Title should read: "Trooper defends his life by shooting criminal"

I wish the title would have read "SOB Shot Dead For Being Stupid."

I'm glad that Trooper Ledbetter is going to be all right.

Dumb azz drunk! I hope his wounds serve as a daily reminder of what he did. He will probably plead innocent because he was too drunk to know what he was doing. He and his wife must be a perfect match for each other.

Thank goodness the trooper is ok!
