83-year-old man killed in tractor wreck on farm

CLEARWATER - An 83-year-old South Carolina man has died in a farming accident at his Clearwater farm.

Authorities told the Aiken Standard that Lewis Atkinson was killed shortly after his tractor slid down 8 feet near a pond and fell on top of him Tuesday afternoon.

Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton says Atkinson's family found him.

Carlton says Atkinson was trying to plow a drainage ditch down toward a pond when he apparently got too close to the edge.

The coroner says he is classifying the death as an accident and doesn't plan an autopsy.
