Georgetown pair get probation for stealing from nonprofit

GEORGETOWN - A judge has ordered a mother and daughter to repay the money they took from a South Carolina nonprofit organization they operated.

The Georgetown Times reported Monday that Dayo White pleaded guilty to breach of trust and criminal conspiracy. The former chief financial officer of the now-defunct Five Rivers Community Development Corp. of Georgetown must repay $52,489.

Her mother, Beulah White, pleaded guilty to breach of trust, embezzlement and criminal conspiracy. She was the nonprofit's former executive director and must pay $3,500.

Judge Steven John also ordered the women to serve five years of probation.

That is not even a slap on the hand. They stole money from people that donated the funds to the organization.

The daughter should have at least had gotten a year in prison. Repay $52489 - how much did she really take. There is no doubt it was more than that.

And they wonder why donations to charities are down. Even the charaties that have the big names have their hands in the till! I no longer donate money, but do donate time and goods to organizations when I can.
