Family: DNA tests on bones found in SC delayed
MYRTLE BEACH - The family of a South Carolina woman missing more than six years says DNA tests to identify remains found in some Horry County woods have been delayed.
Alice Donovan's daughter Angie Gilchrist told WBTW-TV the first attempt to extract enough DNA from the bones found in January failed. Gilchrist says authorities told her they are now trying a different method.
She says it could take several more weeks to determine if the bones are from the Galivants Ferry woman who disappeared in November 2002.
One of the two men on death row for killing Donovan directed searchers to the remains.
Chadrick Fulks also is trying to lead searchers to the remains of missing Marshall University student Samantha Burns in woods in southwest West Virginia. Fulks and Brandon Basham also pleaded guilty in Burns' death.
