Standoff in Mt. Pleasant ends peacefully
MOUNT PLEASANT — A distraught man peacefully surrendered to police late Monday after barricading himself inside his house in the Ravens Run subdivision for more than seven hours, police said.
Police were called to a home on Omni Boulevard around 3 p.m. to check on a distraught man, Sgt. Steve Meadows said. The man refused to come out, and it was unclear if he was armed. The SWAT team was alerted and negotiators began a long series of talks to convince him to come out. The man was alone in the home, he said.
The man surrendered sometime after 10:30 p.m. and was taken into protective custody without incident, Meadows said. He was transported to an area hospital to be evaluated, he said.
Police have not released the man's age and identity, and it remains unclear why he initiated the lengthy stand-off.

Sometimes when I get off work Friday afternoon and go home, I may not come out until I have to go to work Monday morning. Is that wrong? How often am I required to come out of my house before the police and SWAT teams are called? With whom do I check with to verify that I did come out for a breif period to keep from breaking the law? Just wondering. I do not want to break any laws.

The bigger question is why does Mt. Pleasant have a freaking SWAT team?!?!
Ths is just more militarization of American society at all levels.

Being distraught is now being a threat I guess. Darn, if that was the case wouldn't they have all of us being on the watch list. The whole country is becoming a mental basketcase and this economy is not helping at all.
