Driver fleeing police kills 2
Victims died in a car crash near Hampton Park
BY DAVE MUNDAY
A driver who fled a traffic stop Sunday evening crashed into the front end of another car at an intersection near Hampton Park, killing the two occupants.
The deadly chain of events started when a Charleston police officer stopped a 2005 Chrysler 300 at President and Moultrie streets at 6:52 p.m. Sunday. The officer made the stop because the car was speeding, Police Department Public Information Officer Charles Francis said. As the officer walked toward the vehicle, the driver took off, Francis said.
The driver didn't get far before crashing into a 2001 Cadillac at Moultrie Street and Ashley Avenue. Both occupants of the car that was hit died, Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Bob Beres said. The Highway Patrol's Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team is investigating.
The three occupants of the car that was fleeing jumped out and left the scene. At least one was picked up by a late-model Ford Expedition or Cadillac Escalade that stopped at the scene, Francis said.
All three of them were black males, Francis said. The driver was wearing short pants and an Army-green shirt. Another wore blue jeans and a white tank top. A description of the third man was not available.
At least two dozen other Charleston police officers, firefighters, medical and rescue workers arrived at the scene, and about 100 residents stood around watching.

Hopefully the cops catch them and then all the jury has to decide is between original recipe or extra crispy.

Could we give police officers permission to fire upon these willful murderers? If a citizen makes it painfully clear he/she has no respect for human life at the scene of a traffic accident resulting in loss(es) of human life (fleeing while pursued by police), then I'm sure family members of our 2 victims would want at least 2 of the 3, as well as their families, experience losses of comparable magnitude.
Jumping into a late-model Ford Expedition or Cadillac Escalade doesn't make any of these three children men. All 3 are cowards and deserve the worst. Fingerprints. License Plates. Registrations. It's only a matter of time.

Rejectedsoul, were you there? I get the impression from the article that the thugs were not planning to wait for a ticket, so I doubt they would have waited for the officer to run the tag. The thugs hit the other car moments after speeding away from the traffic stop.
Condolences and prayers to the family of the deceased.

You can't shoot down suspects who are simply fleeing the crime scene. 8-star General and Supreme Leader Oboy Ist has not changed that law yet. Make a suggestion to him. I'm late for the hate whitey rally.

Anyone ever see those pop-up, road barriers at places like Google headquarters and US military bases? These barriers have proven themselves capable of blocking automobile traffic to keep people in or out.
What would it take to position these barriers throughout the city? It would be nice to close off an entire city zone in order to aid the capture fleeing criminals.

They was running because they knew the police would give them a beat down. This is the police fault. We need no more police and reparations and everything would be okay so just leave them alone they didn't do nothing.

Should we ask one lone cop to pull over a vehicle with multiple occupants. Times have changed. Maybe we are asking too much now. Maybe it's time to abandon the one-cop patrol, at least in certain locations or assignments.

TO: HoFoSho--They were running because they were guilty. This was not the police officer's fault. If you are pulled over by the police for a traffic violation, you have broken the law. Put responsibility where it belongs, on the men who ran from the police. They didn't do anything wrong? That is an ignorant remark. They broke the traffic laws, and now are guilty of vehicular homicide at the very least. Two people are dead and they are responsible. What about the families of the deceased? Who lost a mother, a father, a brother or a sister because of their reckless disregard of the law?
To the family of the deceased, my sincerest condolences on your loss. This should have never happened to your loved ones. May the Lord be with you in your time of loss.

Yes Hofosho ALL cops are just looking for a black man to beat out their frustrations on. Trying to reason with someone like you is clearly a big waste of time. Only criminals think that all cops are abusers of their power.

Please let them catch these perps and put their sorry ARSES in prison for MURDER.
I hate articles like these where the innocent people pay with their lives because of some ASS WIPE it should have been them and not this innocent couple...

HoFoSho... 1st- please go back to English class so we all don't have to read the ramblings of a 4 yr old; 2nd - shut your mouth because you are showing your ignorance! I guess since it is the police's fault we should get rid of the police department right - oh wait we can't because too many of you don't know how to act like adults and solve your own problems and stop blaming things on "the man". All of you hate the police until something bad happens to you and then you call the police - if you don't like the police because they "harass" you then don't call when someone shoots you or robs you at gun point - be consistent and just don't "bother" the police with your nonsense!!!! Stopping vehicles for traffic violations is a police officer's job - do people tell you that when you try and do your JOB that your are harassing people - don't think so - those three fine upstanding citizens ran from officer's because they knew if the officer got up to the car they were all going to jail for the crack and guns they had on their person - if they weren't guilty of a crime then why did they run? We need to bring back public hangings and televise executions - then maybe people would think twice before they commit a serious crime like vehicular manslaughter!! I should run for public office shouldn't I...

"If you are pulled over by the police for a traffic violation, you have broken the law."
Although I agree with the rest of your post, I must say that this isn't necessarily. Sometimes the police officers pull do over the wrong vehicle. I am not saying that this is the case with the 3 POS in this case; I am almost positive this isn't the case. Otherwise they wouldn't have run. I am just saying that officers are human and do sometimes, mistakenly or otherwise, pull the wrong person.
Now to comment on the ignorance of HoFosho....no, I won't comment on that person. Their screen name says a lot for their stupidity!!!!! No comment required!!!!

I am in awe of the suggestion that this unfortunate incident is the fault of the police officer! The fault lies solely with the individuals who were the occupants of the car that hit the Vices' vehicle! They fled the scene of the accident for the same reason they fled from the traffic stop...they were guilty of a crime!
How can a police officer, who stopped a car for speeding, be guilty for the driver of the vehicle he stopped speeding off and hitting another vehicle and ultimately killing the occupants of that vehicle! It is ridiculous to put blame on anyone else other than the 3 males that ran from the Chrysler 300.
I send my condolences to the family of the victims. And I pray that those responsible for this crime are caught and the court punishes them appropiately!

Charleston is a disgrace. Crime is completely out of control considering the small population. It is not safe to even go downtown these days. Is it my immagination or has the crime ticked up substantially in Charleston since Obama was sworn in. Keep in mind this is a very small city.

I would like to say how worthless the police department can be. I called the department around 9 PM because I live in the Hampton Park area. When I called the officer who answered had the nerve to tell me she "didn't know what was going on and nothing had come across her radio" To which I applied, "Are you kidding me? It looks like the entire force is out there." What a lazy and worthless department. Not only did two people die, the people who killed them were STILL ON THE LOOSE. Charleston PD is a waste of tax dollars. There I said it.

Turn off your TV, concerned - you watch too much. You spoke with a dispatcher, whose job doesn't include informing the public, only taking 911 calls. You are tying up the lines!

concerned112...really - was it that important to be so nosy you felt the need to call the police to come to your house and tell you what is wrong its is nonsense like that which hinders officers from staying out on the streets and finding those dirt bags because officers have to come to your house because you called them. If the department is so worthless why did you even call???? By the way... Officers are not allowed to tell you what is going on - it goes to the integrity of the investigation.. oh but wait you feel that the police work for you because you or your welfare money pays taxes right...wrong Why don't you get off your lazy but and find out what is going on and then help educate your neighbors that if you speak out loud enough about the criminals that live near you in back to green and bayside and all the other crap holes your city might be a better place, but people were to busy trying to get their cell phones out and take pictures of the dying couple then to turn their cousins in to the cops...cause you know those 3 POS little boys live downtown somewhere and their cousins or baby's momma was in the crowd.. so shame on you for your comments!
