Man killed in night spot shooting

Suspect, charged with murder, claims self-defense

WALTERBORO — Colleton County recorded its seventh homicide early Saturday when a man was shot inside a rural night spot.

Lamont Truesdale, 31, of Jacksonboro, was shot with a handgun at a place known as "Leon's" in the Round-O area.

The call came in around 3:30 a.m. "When we got there, a male subject had been shot by another male subject, and he was still on the scene," said Sheriff George Malone.

Elijah Martin, 58, of Cottageville was charged with murder and was being held in the county jail, Malone said.

While the case is being investigated as a homicide, Martin has made a claim of self-defense, the sheriff reported.

At least two guns were recovered.

The shooting is not being investigated as gang-related or in connection to the other string of shootings in the county this year.

Malone said he did not know if Leon's is a licensed club, but that several people were inside at the time of the shooting. A bond hearing will be scheduled.

Maybe one of them was licensed, who knows.....however, lets not begin to pass judgement before this case is investigated.

This place isn't the typical "after hours club" where so many of these incidents occur. It's an old, old building, more or less a private club built many years ago so the guys in the neighborhood had a bar close to their homes.

I don't recall any trouble up there in the past.

just another black on black murder, move on people..

Where in the article does it identify their RACE? You're so quick to JUDGE! You hope their Black so you can add this to your statistics as well. As far as moving on, you still embellish the old cliche, "It's one LESS that we have to deal with"! This still proves Racism and Bigotry still exist!

I wish Colleton County Sheriff's Dept would state the facts of this crime. They have taken witness statements and none of the details are reflected in this story.
I personally know that the person who was killed came into the LICENSED club to rob:

Here is the story:.
Earlier that day, 3 men came down to the LICENSED club in a black Envoy SUV and finally later that night it was known why they were there to rob.
The 1st perpetrator came into the LICENSED club via the back door with a white t-shirt over his head with the eyes cut out and a shotgun and the 2nd perp was at the front door and the 3rd perp had to be in the vehicle. The 1st perpetrator pointed the shotgun at all of the three people manning the bar and asked for the money. (Leaving out details) The 1st perpetrator was given the money in a bag and left firing shots as he left:
What happened outside was clearly self-defense because why did the gunman/robber fire his weapon???? Who did he fire it at??? Anyway, the 1st perpetrator didn't get very far. He was shot and killed. He was found faced-up with the t-shirt off his head, shotgun next to his body, and the moneybag in the same vicinity.

Colleton County Sheriff Dept state the facts as you were given it: This guy came to rob and this wasn't his first time:He also robbed Club 4: Take the real perpetrators off the street.

Some people on here are soooo ignorant!

I do not think that was the intended purpose of allowing public forum on the stories.
