Glover's win gives S.C. three legs of Grand Slam
By Tommy Braswell
Former Clemson star Lucas Glover's victory Monday in the U.S. Open gave South Carolina three legs of golf's Grand Slam. The late Henry Picard, a longtime Charleston resident, won the 1938 Masters and 1939 PGA Championship. Now all we need is a British Open.
And don't forget on the women's side that Charleston native and Hall of Famer Beth Daniel won the 1990 LPGA Championship (plus two U.S. Women's Amateurs). And former Summerville resident Jane Geddes won the 1986 U.S. Women's Open and 1987 LPGA Championship (she also won the Women's British Open before it became a major).
Former Furman star Betsy King won three Kraft Nabisco Championships, an LPGA Championship and a U.S. Women's Open while Dottie Pepper, another Furman product, won the Kraft Nabisco Championship twice.
