The Charleston County Sheriff's Office charged Mark Edward Seifts, 24, of Summerville with armed robbery and accused him in the Sunday night holdup at the Hardee's on Ashley River Road.

"After being given and voluntary waiving his Miranda Warnings, the defendant, Mark Edward Seifts gave a verbal statement confessing to his involvement in the incident to Detective Perkins of the Charleston County Sheriff's Office," the arrest affidavit said.

Like in the other robberies, the suspect did not produce a weapon but had his right hand in his pocket and said he had a gun. He does not face any weapons charges.

Seifts now faces charges in three of the seven robberies in West Ashley, Summerville and North Charleston. Each time, the robber wore a hooded sweatshirt, and in several of the robberies the words "South Pole" were on the shirt.

North Charleston police on Wednesday charged Seifts with armed robbery in the holdups Tuesday at Candlewood Suites on Northwoods Boulevard and Monday at the Wendy's on Ashley Phosphate Road.

Police said Seifts also is a suspect in robberies Saturday at CVS pharmacy on Ashley River Road; Saturday at the Sonic on University Boulevard in North Charleston; Sunday at Larry's Subs on Trolley Road in Summerville; and Monday at the Best Western on Prospect Drive in North Charleston.

Seifts has no criminal history of robbery in South Carolina, according to the State Law Enforcement Division. He has twice been convicted for possession of cocaine, his record shows.

Get this guy into treatment...Maybe with some behavior modification and addiction counseling he can turn his life around.

He doesn't need treatment. If the allegations are true, he committed armed robbery. If convicted, the only "treatment" he should get is a death sentence.

A death sentence for armed robbery when there are people who do things that are far worse than this who get to sit in prison for years and not face the death sentence? A bit harsh, ColdBud, don't you think?

Does anyone doubt this guy would have blown someone's brains out at some point? The guy is a criminal and some prison might do him some good. The death penalty is harsh and should only be used on murderers and child rapers. We ain't the Taliban, folks!

kris86, I don't think the death penalty is harsh for armed robbery, even when committed with a toy gun or BB gun. I will agree that people commit worse crimes... they should all get the death penalty too. In my opinion, any violent crime, as defined by our state laws, should be punishable by death.

Well, if you don't want to kill these no good low life violent criminals, maybe we should adopt a few of the Shariah laws-cutting off hands and feet of violent criminals might not solve the problem, but it would cut down on repeat offenders.

It wasn't a violent crime... no gun was used, no gun was even present.

It is a Class C felony and considered a violent crime. It doesn't say gun exclusively-knife, iron pipe, metal knuckles and even a slingshot can be applies. All you have to do is make others believe you have a weapon, and WHAM! Armed robbery! Which is good.

I look at this dude's photo and I think one thing; military service! Lets not throw able bodied criminals into prison for life while honest, hardworking soldiers are getting blown up every day. I know the military does not want criminal types, but military service is well known for burning the crazy out of people. I say we give folks like this kid a real chance to redeem himself. Prison will only serve to further educate him in the criminal arts. There are no dead bodies behind this jokers crime spree! It looks like his girlfriend killed a few twinkies, but that generally is not a crime.

Giving every crackhead who commits a crime the death penalty is a very slippery slope. First we start executing armed robbers and the next thing you know we're killing tax cheats and speeders.

I find it "odd" that a lot of the people who commented so harshly on other stories, with people opposite of the white race, are so 'willy-nilly' to back this man and offer up a variety of suggestions to better him.

However, the death penalty is seemingly harsh but this is NOT this first robbery he is a SUSPECT in. (I use the term 'supect' b/c he is not yet guilty. It appears all of the commenters on this forum are quick to pass judgement and kill you off before anyone has gone to trial; I guess it's: guilty until proven innocent, huh?)
