Lowcountry gets new Highway Patrol captain
S.C. Highway Patrol Capt. Christopher N. Williamson has been named the new commander over the troop that oversees six Lowcountry counties, including Charleston, Dorchester and Berkeley.

Williamson has been with the Highway Patrol since 1988. His first assignment was in Berkeley County.
He has served as captain of Troop Seven since 2003. He will replace Capt. James Woods, who recently retired as commander of Troop Six after leading it since 2004.
Troop 6 oversees Charleston, Berkeley, Dorchester, Beaufort, Colleton and Jasper counties.
"This is like coming home for me," Williamson said in a released statement. "I spent the first 10 years of my career patrolling the Berkeley county area and came to love this area of the state. It's good to be back and serving the fine citizens in the Lowcountry. I look forward to building upon and expanding our safety efforts to make the roadways in Troop Six a safer place to travel."
