Nightclub security fires at suspect's car
By Andy Paras
A security guard at a Savannah Highway nightclub fired three shots at a suspect's car after it struck another security guard and several parked cars early Sunday.
Lawrence Devon Green, 27, of Adams Run is charged with three counts of assault and battery with intent to kill after an incident with armed security guards at the Peter Miller Night Club early Sunday morning.
Charleston County sheriff's deputies said the suspect was in handcuffs when they arrived about 2 a.m at Peter Miller's Nightclub at 4213 Savannah Highway.
Deputies arrested and charged Lawrence Devon Green, 27, of Adams Run with three counts of assault and battery with intent to kill.
Three men and one woman, all certified as armed security through the State Law Enforcement Division, told deputies the incident began when a man who had been told to leave the club shouted obscenities at one of them, left the property briefly in his white Cadillac DeVille and then drove back onto the property.
One of the security guards told the suspect to park his vehicle. Instead the suspect hit the gas, nearly hitting a security guard. Another security guard sprayed pepper spray through an open window, causing the driver to stop the car. The suspect then rammed a parked vehicle, according to an incident report.
The guards told deputies that a passenger inside the Cadillac jumped out of the vehicle and put his hands over his head. As a security guard attempted to handcuff the passenger, the driver of the vehicle hit the gas again. The security guard moved the passenger out of the way of the oncoming vehicle and was struck with the open car door, according to the report.
Thomas Lee Lightfoot, one of the security guards, fired a shot into the Cadillac's radiator, according to the report. The driver hit the gas again, nearly striking the other guard again. The report says Lightfoot fired two more shots into the driver's side of the car and the Cadillac slammed into two more parked cars.
The four security guards took Green into custody until deputies arrived.

Everytime I'd hear bout Peter it was nothin but bad news, but everytime I go, it's nothing but a cool atmosphere. And I was trippin the first time I saw the armed guards... You would think having a SLED agent -- with an AR-15 strapped to his neck -- standing next to a bouncer would discourage such a thing, but I guess dat just goes to show that punishment (implied or fulfilled) doesn't sway crime...
