Tips for traveling during pregnancy: Traveling is best during the second trimester. You feel better, no nausea, more energy, and the size of your abdomen is still manageable.
When you are in the car, you must wear your seat belt. Place your lap belt under your belly and place the shoulder belt between your breasts. Push your seat back as far as you can.
When you are traveling for an extended period of time, get out and walk every 90 minutes. You'll be more comfortable, and it will keep the blood circulating in your legs to minimize the chance of blood clots.
- Dr. Jill Mauldin, associate professor and perinatal medical director at MUSC
