Mat Kearney
Even if you have never owned a CD by Mat Kearney, or have never even heard the guy's name, you have probably heard his music. Thanks to the growing trend of television shows using original music by contemporary artists, Kearney's music has been heard on TV shows such as "The Unit," "Without a Trace," "Bones," "The Hills," "NCIS" and "Grey's Anatomy" to name a few. While the exposure of those prime time television shows has no doubt been a benefit, Kearney's music easily speaks for itself with its undeniably catchy hooks and meaningful lyrics. Songs such as "Undeniable" and "Closer to Love" have earned Kearney a fast and widespread following. The Oregon-born singer-songwriter, who now calls Nashville home, will perform this Monday at The Music Farm downtown.
Tickets are $15 in advance at etix.com and $17 the day of the show. Doors open at 8 p.m.
Cowboy Mouth
One could debate for hours as to what band turns in the best live performance. When the lists are complete though, it is likely that Cowboy Mouth will be on more than a few of them. The legendary New Orleans band likes to bring a little bit of Mardi Gras with it everywhere it goes, and the resulting performance is one part rock show and one part tent revival. Lead singer and drummer Fred LeBlanc serves as the master of ceremonies from behind his drum kit, which he pushes right up to the edge of the stage. Guitarist/keyboardist John Thomas Griffith, bassist Regina Zernay, and guitarist Jonathan Pretus round out the group, which refuses to let a single fan leave without a smile on their face. Whether you're seeing "The Mouth" for the first time or the fiftieth, you are assured a fun time, and this weekend there is really no excuse to miss the band, thanks to a three night stand at Windjammer on the Isle of Palms. Tickets are $20 for the Friday and Saturday shows, which both begin at 10 p.m., and $15 for Sunday's special early 7 p.m. show.
The Georgia Satellites
"I got a little change in my pocket, goin' jinga-linga-ling!" If you had a pulse in the 80's, then chances are that you know those are the lyrics to "Keep Your Hands to Yourself" by The Georgia Satellites. Although lead singer Dan Baird left the band for a solo career almost two decades ago, founding members Rick Richards and Rick Price continue to tour as The Georgia Satellites, along with keyboardist Kenney Head and drummer Todd Johnston. This Saturday local classic rock fans can catch the Satellites at Halligan's in West Ashley on Saturday night. Tickets are $15 in advance at etix.com or $20 the day of the show.
