Upstate coroner, deputy coroner win awards
COLUMBIA - An Upstate coroner and assistant coroner have both received awards from the South Carolina Coroner's Association.
The group named Dennis Fowler of Cherokee County coroner of the year and Robin Forrest of Spartanburg County deputy coroner of the year last week.
The organization says it honored Fowler in part for his efforts to get coroners across the state access to Department of Motor Vehicles records. Fowler also has developed a number of programs to try and prevent deaths, like an anti-alcohol and anti-drug presentations for high school of college students.
Fowler took office in 2007.
Forrest has spent nine years with the Spartanburg County coroner and was honored for both her skills as an investigator and how she handles the notification of families.
