Two people die in upstate collision

PAULINE - Two people have been killed in a wreck south of Spartanburg during storms that swept across the South Carolina Upstate.

Spartanburg County coroner's investigator Randy Bogan says 25-year-old Justin Philbeck of Woodruff and 80-year-old Frances Billings of Enoree died in the wreck in Pauline late Saturday.

Bogan says the victims were the only people in the two vehicles.

Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Kathy Hiles says Philbeck was driving a truck that crossed the center of the highway and struck Billings' car. Hiles says Philbeck was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle. Billings was wearing a seat belt.

She says investigators think the wreck was caused by a combination of speed and the weather.
