A former Medical University of South Carolina public safety officer is accused of stealing about $200,000 worth of school property and then auctioning it off on eBay for a hefty profit, authorities said.
State Law Enforcement Division agents charged officer Michael Brian Oldham on Thursday with misconduct in office, grand larceny and third-degree burglary. He remained in the Charleston County jail Friday with bail set at $30,000,
according to court records.
The thefts occurred between Sept. 9 and June 6, SLED stated.
Oldham, 42, of Charleston, is accused of using his work ID and keys to gain unauthorized access to several medical facilities while on the job. He reportedly used that access to steal MUSC property, which was then sold on the Internet for a "substantially large monetary profit," according to affidavits.
The stolen items included microscopic eyepiece lenses and a wireless lapel microphone, according to Jennifer Timmons, SLED's communications director. Some of the booty was sold through eBay, netting more than $65,000, she said.
The arrest was the result of an investigation by SLED and MUSC's Public Safety Department. MUSC issued the following statement on the arrest:
"An employee in the MUSC Public Safety Office was dismissed from his position on Monday, June 8 after an internal affairs investigation and the launch of a subsequent SLED investigation. It is standard for MUSC not to comment on ongoing investigations or criminal proceedings."
Maggie Diebolt, an MUSC spokeswoman, declined to answer further questions, including how long Oldham had been employed by the Public Safety Department.

some of you people should look at yourself in the mirror. GOd did not make eveyone perfect and just remember that some of these people have kids that read these stories and it doesn't make them feel to good about thier parent to have nasty stupid comments written about them. If you have nothing better to do than sit here and comment stupid stuff how about spend that time doing something for the community!!!! there's an idea instead of bashing people you know nothing about!!!!

I would think that the first thing that wouldn't "make them feel to good about thier parent" is that he used his law enforcement position to steal. Get your priorities straight.

I am SO SICK AND TIRED of everyone blaming Pres.Obama for everytime someone makes a bad and stupid decision in their lives. This world would be a better place if we all just take responsibility for our own actions!!!!! Hats off to MUSC for being open and honest about corrupt and bringing it to light. I wonder if the Charleston Police Department will ever have the integrity to follow the example! If one files complaints about officers breaking the law, most of the time a report is not even filed, so there is no real record. A good portion of the Charleston police are liars and/or thieves who are above the laws. I know of at least one case when the cops kept 2 1/2 kilos of caocaine at a drug bust and turned in only one kilo. It's not like the drug trafficer is going to come forward and say, "But I had 3 1/2 kilos!" The only hope for an end to all the corruption is for the corruption to be exposed. I would like to see the legislature make the penalties for crimes committed by law enforcement while on the clock or using law enforcement authority DOUBLE that for a regular citizen committing the same crime.

How do you know so many Police are corrupt, was it your cocaine they confiscated? Come on...just because some people have more "power" in the position they are in does not mean they will take advantage of it.
