14 people displaced by Ladson apartment fire

A fire at an eight-unit apartment complex in Ladson Thursday night forced 14 people from their homes, though no one was hurt, authorities said.
The fire started at about 11 p.m. at Tranquil Acres off Ladson Road and was well-involved when crews arrived, according to Assistant Chief Joe Waters of the Old Fort Fire Department.
Four of the apartments were completely destroyed and several others suffered water damage, Waters said. Crews had the fire under control within about 30 minutes.
The fire started in the rear of the building, possibly in a utility room, although the cause of the blaze is still under investigation, Waters said.
The Carolina Lowcountry Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the families with money for food and clothing.
