Monday

FLOODING HEARING: 6-8 p.m. Burke High School, 244 President St. The city of Charleston will host a meeting about a proposed $130 million initiative to reduce flooding on the West Side of the peninsula in an area described as the Spring-Fishburne Drainage Basin, which is roughly bounded by MUSC, Hampton Park, the Ashley River and King Street.



Tuesday

SCHOOL BOARD BUDGET HEARING: 5:15 p.m. 75 Calhoun St. The Charleston County School Board will hold a public hearing on next year's budget. The board asked two weeks ago for district staff to return with an operating budget that doesn't have a tax increase and doesn't negatively affect schools' educational quality. The proposed $320.5 million operating budget would increase taxes about 5 percent for those who own cars, rental properties, businesses and second homes.

WALTERBORO MAYORAL RUNOFF ELECTION: Walterboro voters will head back to the polls Tuesday to decide whether City Councilman Bill Young or newspaper publisher Phillip M. Taylor will be their new mayor. Polls will open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Walterboro 1 and 4 and Peniel precincts will vote at Forest Hills Elementary School, 633 Hiers Corner Road. The Walterboro 2 and 3 precincts will vote at the Old Hampton Street Elementary School, 494 Hampton St.



Wednesday
