Man charged with DUI in fatal crash

MONCKS CORNER —A sailor at the Naval Weapons Station in Goose Creek is charged with felony DUI after a head-on collision that killed one man and critically injured another.

Timothy Capps, 43, of Myrtle Beach died following the 5:55 p.m. wreck on U.S. 17A, Berkeley County Coroner Glenn Rhoad said.

A passenger in Capps' vehicle was also injured. Donald Ray Cochrane of Murrells Inlet is in critical condition at the Medical University Hospital, authorities said.

The S.C. Highway Patrol charged Brandon Pilarowki from Arizona with felony driving under the influence, said Lance Cpl. Bob Beres. His age was not immediately available.

Beres said Pilarowski was driving south on U.S. 17A when his vehicle ran off the road way and then over-corrected and crossed the center line.

The vehicle collided head-on with a pickup truck driven by Capps.

Rhoad said Capps and Cochrane worked in Moncks Corner that day and were heading back to their homes in Myrtle Beach when the crash happened.

Something has got to be done with the DUI's everywhere, I just read in yesterdays paper that another person was DUI and ran a stop sign and killed a 20 year old and a 17 year old. I always think of how that could be one of my loved ones.

Please everyone stop and think before you get behind the wheel after having too much to drink.

Prayers to the grieving families on both sides, the guilty and the innocent.

You can't use being drunk as an excuse for any other crime, why is it good when you kill someone? We need a law change for a murder charge on this so called "felony dui".

I just looked this kid up, and that is what he is, a kid...only 19 years old. He obviously doesn't have much sense and now his life is ruined, his family's lives, and the lives of innocent people he hurt and their families, just because he was too cocky to think he can drive while being drunk. Gives all the honorable men in the military a bad name too.

I'd say most people who get behind the wheel after drinking truly believe they "can handle it". Too bad they don't think about how everyone who killed someone while drunk driving also thought they could handle it.

Not to mention it should dawn on them also that it's "against the law".

being in the same program he is in, i am embarassed... i know it wont compensate for anything.. but i hope he blew a very low limit.. a minor can still be charged with a DUI if he blows over .01 while the legal limit is .08
I hope this was just bad driving. Not a blackout wreck.

Yet - there are posts almost every day on the P&C boards with accusations that the police unfairly target people who drive "just a little drunk".

Call a cab, morons!

Anybody notice how the article does not even mention what day the accident occurred? It lists the time, but not the day.

Also, the drunk's name is spelled two different ways in the article.

This is just sloppy.
