Two Lowcountry men are dead following separate head-on collisions in Dorchester and Berkeley counties this weekend.
Adell Lewis Jr., 50, of Reevesville died instantly about 2 a.m. Monday, Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet said.
Authorities say Lewis was driving a Chevrolet S-10 westbound on U.S. Highway 78, about a mile from St. George, when a Dodge Durango crossed the center line and struck his pickup truck.
The S.C. Highway Patrol charged George Lamont Perry, 27, of Reevesville with felony DUI, Cpl. Paul Brouthers said.
Brouthers said the patrol's Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team is assisting in the investigation.
In an earlier wreck, Hanahan police are investigating what caused a Mazda four-door to cross the center line on Railroad Avenue about 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Hanahan Police Lt. Michael Fowler said.
The Mazda struck a pickup truck driven by Jessie Lister, 68, of North Charleston.
Lister died later at a local hospital from injuries suffered in the crash, Berkeley County Deputy Coroner George Oliver said.

Getting behind the wheel while drunk is an intentional act. All deaths attributed to drunk driving should be prosecuted as murder. Until that happens, nothing will change.

I would have to agree. Why we give people 2, 3, 4 or more chances to kill more people is beyond me.

I totally agree that anyone drinking and driving should be charged with murder, because one day they will walk out of prison and the person will be dead and their family will never be the same. It was my uncle that was killed in one of the collisions.

Condolences to you and your family.
Driving drunk is an intentional act and should be treated as such.
