EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS
Brain Fitness and InSight: Lowcountry Senior Center offers an opportunity to improve memory functioning with two scientifically based computer programs, Brain Fitness and Insight. Lunch with Dr. Lutz: Bring a lunch and enjoy straightforward conversations on various health topics with Myron Lutz, MD. AARP Driving Course: This two-day defensive driving course is designed specifically for older adults. Brush up on your driving skills, gain a better understanding of the effects aging has on driving and get a discount on your insurance. Healthy Living with Diabetes: This six-week workshop is for people with type 2 diabetes. Learn how to live a healthy life with diabetes. Benefits from participating include learning to better manage your symptoms and blood glucose (sugar), learning ways to balance food, exercise, medication and stress, gaining tips to manage day-to-day activities and gaining support from others. I-CARE Counseling: Have questions about Medicare? Speak to one of our trained I-CARE counselors. I-CARE volunteer counselors have been trained to help with Medicare, Medicaid, prescription drug plans, and Medicare and insurance fraud issues. My Medicare Matters: Learn to navigate the Medicare maze with a course designed by the National Council on Aging and the Benefits to Access Coalition. EXERCISE
Gentle Yoga: This class is a restorative relaxing yoga class. Designed for the senior adult who needs to improve flexibility, balance and core strength. Yoga is a good form of exercise to manage the effects of fibromyalgia, stress and Parkinson's. It also improves core strength and balance. T'ai Chi: This class focuses on a system of movements designed to improve your health, increase flexibility and decrease your risk for falls through these gentle movements. Sit & Fit/ Enhance Fitness Level I: Monday-Friday, 11 a.m.-noon. This seated class includes warm-up, aerobics, cool-down, strength training, and flexibility exercises. Enhance Fitness Level II: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, 2-3 p.m. A very low-intensity, non-impact class. Thirty minutes of very basic aerobic movements with balance and coordination movements incorporated. 20 minutes of toning exercises using ankle and wrist weights. The class ends with abdominal exercises and stretching. This is the easiest of the Lifetime classes. Classes are free for members and adults age 60+. Donations are appreciated. Fit & Firm/Level III Enhance Fitness: Mondays and Wednesdays, 9-10 a.m. and 3:15-4:15 p.m. Thirty minutes of high- to moderate-intensity, low-impact aerobics and 20 minutes of toning exercises using ankle and wrist weights. The class ends with abdominal exercises and stretching. This is the most vigorous of the Lifetime classes. Good for participants who are accustom to exercise. DANCE
