Firehouse Subs and its nonprofit public safety foundation has donated $17,000 worth of equipment to responders to victims of cardiac arrest.
The North Charleston and American LaFrance Fire Museum, which has more than 20,000 visitors a year, received an automated external defibrillator July 20 at the museum.
Mount Pleasant Fire Department received a ZOLL Auto Pulse July 21 at the Firehouse Subs location on 623 Johnnie Dodds Blvd.
The foundation's funds for equipment are raised through individual donations, pickle bucket sales and canisters placed by registers.
Each restaurant recycles leftover 5-gallon pickle buckets and allows customers to purchase them for $2.
Donation canisters on register counters explain the nonprofit's mission and collect cash for the foundation.
Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation Inc. has provided more than $1.25 million in life-saving equipment and resources to local fire departments.
Firehouse Subs also has been named a winner of the National Restaurant Association's Restaurant Neighbor Award for its overall dedication to community service.
