Driver says he blacked out
The driver of a car that struck a building Sunday told police that he blacked out.
North Charleston police said a white 2002 Pontiac crashed into a building at 3025 Ashley Phosphate Road at 12:43 p.m. Sunday.
Witnesses told officers that the car was at an intersection when it hit a raised median, traveled in the opposite lanes and then jumped the curb. The car went airborne and knocked over a state sign before striking the building, according to a police report.
Witnesses said the car was going very fast and did not stop, according to the police report.
The driver said he felt the blackout coming but kept driving because he was close to his house.
Family members who arrived later told police that it's not the first time he blacked out, but they didn't know what caused it, according to the report.
Police charged Anthony Washington, 54, of North Charleston with reckless driving and no proof of insurance, according to the report.

Here we go again...
Exactly the same story as yesterday, only transferred to today's paper, yet all the comments are left behind. What's the point of that if they haven't added any new information?

If he's had two or more seizures, he's probably an undiagnosed epileptic. Under South Carolina law, Mr. Washington must be seizure-free for six months before driving again.
The story indicates that he has some notice (aura) of an oncoming seizure. That's good, because a sudden black-out and fall can cause major injury. There are some good medications now that control seizures well, but sometimes it takes a while to find the one that works best for a particular individual. It took two years for me, but now life is almost back to normal.
This man needs to get checked by a neurologist right away. If he has growing brain tumors, as I did, they need to begin treatment ASAP. And he also needs to thank his lucky stars that a building is the only thing he hit...

I blacked out just over 6 months ago at the top of the stairs at my office. I was taken to MUSC where they found I had a tumor, which caused the seizure. I was a bit upset that I was told I couldn't drive for 6 months, but I followed these instructions just for the reason I couldn't live with myself if this happened while I was driving and I hurt or killed someone. This man should thank his lucky stars that no one was injured.
