For some Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission activities, a chaperon is required for participants 15 and younger. Registration is required for all programs and some special events. Call 795-4386 or visit www.ccprc.com to register.

Summer Entertainment Series: Shows begin at 10 a.m., and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Shows are best suited for ages 3-12. Fee: $5/$4 CCR (Charleston County resident) discount/$5 walk-in. $3 per child for groups of 15 or more with chaperons admitted for free.

The following shows are being held in Edisto Hall at James Island County Park:

--July 23: Capoeira Charleston. Capoeira is a blend of martial arts, games and dancing in Brazil. This show is set to traditional music featuring Brazilian songs and instruments.

--July 30: Sam's Path Petting Zoo. Starts at 11:15 a.m. Sam's Path Petting Zoo stars a kangaroo and a monkey.

Moonlight Mixer: Dance the night away under the stars at the Folly Beach Fishing Pier with the popular Moonlight Mixers. At 7-11 p.m. July 31, local DJ Rob Duren will spin oldies and beach music. Advance tickets are $10 and $8 for Charleston County residents. If available, tickets purchased on-site are $10. No refunds or exchanges. Call or visit the Web site for additional mixer dates.

Pier Fishing Tournaments: Registration for all tournaments begins at 6 a.m. and takes place on-site only. Tournaments end at 4 p.m., and prizes are awarded at 4:15 p.m. Call the Folly Beach Fishing Pier at 588-3474. Folly Beach Fishing Pier. Ages 3 and up. $12/$9 CCR discount/$7 ages 3-12 CCR and NCR. $14/$12 CCR discount (King Mackerel). July 25.

Shagging on the Cooper: On July 25 from 7:30-11 p.m., dance the night away under the stars at the new Mount Pleasant Pier. The Sneakers, a four-piece party band, will play a variety of beach, jazz, funk and blues. Beverages are available for purchase on-site. Only 800 tickets will be sold for this event. Tickets are $8 and will only be available for purchase at the event (no advance tickets will be sold). No refunds or exchanges.

Early Morning Bird Walks at Caw Caw: The walk through distinct habitats allows participants to discuss birds, butterflies and other organisms. Preregistration is encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome. Meets at Caw Caw Interpretive Center. $5/free for Gold Pass members. 8:30 a.m.-noon July 25, 29.

Challenge Course Open Day: Experience the excitement of walking across a cable suspended between utility poles or zipping down a 250-foot cable. Pre-registration required. James Island County Park. Ages 14 and up. $12/$10 CCR discount. 6-8:30 p.m. July 24.

Sea Kayak Instructional Classes: ACA Strokes & Maneuvers Refinement. Using on-water practice, ACA-certified instructors will assist participants in performing strokes and maneuvers with efficiency, fluidity and control. Pre-registration required. James Island County Park. Ages 16 and up. $54/$45 CCR discount. 9 a.m.-4 p.m. July 25.

Climbing Clinics: Climbing Merit Badge. This class meets all the requirements for obtaining the Climbing Merit Badge, except First Aid and Leave No Trace. During this eight-hour course, learn to belay, climb and rappel. Pre-registration required. James Island County Park. Ages 11 and up. $42/$35 CCR discount. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. July 25.

Whitewater Quickstart: Designed for those wishing to participate in the Adventure Camp Canoe II or Kayak II sessions, all are welcome. Pre-registration required. James Island County Park. Ages 9-12. $30/$25 CCR discount. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. July 25.
