Grants awarded to 15 nonprofits
The Giving Back to Berkeley County Fund has awarded $50,000 in grants to 15 nonprofit organizations in or serving Berkeley County.
Some of the nonprofits that received grants from this foundation are the American Red Cross, Berkeley County YMCA, Callen-Lacey Center, East Cooper Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity of Berkeley County and the Lowcountry Food Bank.
The Giving Back to Berkeley County Fund was established by anonymous donors as part of the Coastal Community Foundation.
Last year, the Coastal Community Foundation awarded $11.8 million to community projects, scholarships and other charitable programs.

Job fair planned at career center
The Trident One Stop Career System will hold a job fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the Trident One Stop Career center at 1930 Hanahan Road, North Charleston.
Job seekers should bring their resumes.
Some of the positions employers are seeking to fill are truck drivers, HVAC technicians, accounting personnel, administrative assistants and child-care workers.

Goose Creek seeks volunteers
Volunteers are being sought for Goose Creek Unity Day 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 8 at Goose Creek High School.
Unity Day provides those in need with free clothing, food, school supplies and health screenings.
Entertainment and fun family activities are planned.
The community is asking for more volunteers, monetary donations, and businesses, churches and organizations to participate. Volunteers will meet every two weeks leading up to the event.

Special program slated on battle
A special program on the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment will be held July 18.
The 54th spearheaded the July 18, 1863, assault on Morris Island's Battery Wagner and was the subject of the hit movie "Glory." This program is free and will take place in the Fort Moultrie Visitor Center.
--1-4 p.m.: Living History with Joseph McGill and the 54th Massachusetts re-enactors.
--2 p.m.: Presentation by Park Ranger Donel Singleton.
--2:30 p.m.: Watch the battle scene from the 1989 film "Glory."
A unit of Fort Sumter National Monument, Fort Moultrie is at 1214 Middle St., Sullivan's Island. The site is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily. The normal entrance fee of $3 is waived for the weekend of July 18-19.

Church features gospel group
Ernie Couch & Revival, a Nashville-based male gospel group, will perform at a dinner/concert at 6 p.m. July 18 at Charleston Baptist Church, 13 San Miguel Road, West Ashley.
Tickets are on sale for $10 each and can be purchased in the church office or a ticket request can be made online at www.charlestonbaptist.org. The dinner will be fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans and dessert.
The group has traveled the road for more than a decade and will present a professional evening of music. It has recorded numerous projects on its own, as well as recording with such names as Jake Hess, George Jones, James Blackwood, Boots Randolph, George Beverly Shea, Petra and many others. Grubbs family reunion slated
The 94th reunion of Grubbs families will be July 18 at the Spring Branch Church Recreation Hall in Bamberg.
In 1916, the first reunion was held at the old home place of Nal and Julia Bodiford Grubbs in the Reedy Branch Church area in Barnwell County. Their 14 children continued the event every year.
Flip-Flop Ball set Saturday
Wings for Kids is throwing its annual fundraiser, the Flip-Flop Ball, 7-11 p.m. July 18 at Gold Bug Island.
Wings is a Charleston-based organization that helps children learn life lessons through an after-school program.
The event will feature catering by Charleston Bay Gourmet, music from Two 3 Ways and an open bar.
The Flip-Flop Ball is an event for participants 21 years and older.
Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door. Ticket sales are at Poe's Tavern on Sullivan's Island or at www.wingsforkids.org.
