Shrimp, toasted!

The Old Village Post House, 101 Pitt St., Mount Pleasant, honors the shrimping industry July 22 at 6:30 p.m. with a special shrimp and wine dinner.

Special guest Kimberly Carroll of Raul's Seafood on Shem Creek will be on hand to share experiences of sustaining the heritage of the local shrimp trade as well as tales of a life spent making a living on the water. The menu is created by Frank Lee, executive chef and Jim Walker, chef de cuisine, with wine pairings by Patrick Emerson, wine and beverage director.

The event costs $48 each, plus tax and gratuity. Reservations are required, and can be made by calling 388-8935.

Now we're talking

Chef Brett McKee is proud to announce the addition of a "Smaller Portions, Smaller Prices" menu at his steakhouse restaurant, Oak.

The new menu will be served 5-7 p.m. Monday-Thursday. Entrees, which include two sides, are $15-$16 and will be served in addition to Oak's regular menu.

Very cool

Ted's Butcherblock, 334 East Bay St., hosts a summer craft beer dinner on July 16. The dinner will feature ice cold beers paired with a cooling and cold four-course summer menu. The cost is $30 per person and includes four courses and all beer tastings.

Ted's also continues to host Friday night wine tastings 5-7 p.m. for $5 per person. Proceeds go to Darkness to Light. Guests are invited to stay for Ted's "$12 Friday Night Dinners," where they can enjoy a 10 percent discount on a glass or bottle of any featured wine. Baked ice cream

Baked, 160 East Bay St., hosts a special family-friendly event to launch its new line of ice creams, locally made in Ravenel at Wholly Cow.

Baked's ice cream social will be 4-6 p.m. Sunday and will feature its signature ice creams along with a sundae bar and ice cream floats and brownie a la mode. The cost is $5 per person; children under 18 are free.

Jack's Cosmic Dogs, 2805 U.S. Highway 17 N., Mount Pleasant, fed chowhound Alton Brown (vacationing at the Isle of Palms) last week not once but twice.

Change-ups

Lana Restaurant & Bar, 210 Rutledge Ave., has had a few menu changes utilizing the local summer bounty.

On the menu: fritto misto of shrimp, squash, zucchini, and fennel with roasted pepper vinaigrette, a new twist on prosciutto with melon and seasonal compositions of fish. Happy Hour reigns 5-7 p.m. weekdays and a tapas menu is served.

Cocktails on Coleman is open 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and offers free parking to all market patrons and vendors. Just follow the red flags and signs.
