COLUMBIA - A convicted drug dealer who police say shot and killed a 12-year-old South Carolina trick-or-treater because the man thought he was being robbed is expected to appear in court.

Quentin Patrick of Sumter is scheduled to have a pretrial hearing Wednesday afternoon in federal court.

Police say Patrick emptied an AK-47 into the front of his house when he heard someone knock Oct. 31 and saw masked people on his stoop. T.J. Darrisaw died in a rain of at least 29 bullets.

Patrick has pleaded not guilty to murder and a federal charge of being a felon in possession of a weapon. He has three prior convictions for crack cocaine distribution.

Patrick's attorney wants his client evaluated. John Hare says Patrick suffers from a mental defect and doesn't understand the case against him.

yeah, let's release some pot head so he can have a cell with Bubba. The only thing the pot will attack is a .99 burrito from Taco Bell.

He understood how to load an AK, point and shoot 29 bullets into a 12 year old trick or treater. Now the state wants to try him. I wonder what he doesn't understand?

vmira, I don't know too many "potheads" who have AK-47s, but I know lots of "bubbas" do. I don't think a "pot" can "attack" anything. And how do you "release" someone so they can "share a cell" with ANYONE? I'm taking away two lessons from here: Armed paranoia always has disastrous consequences. Blind hatred comes from an unarmed mind, stunting the ability to reason or write clearly, ultimately resulting in that person shooting BLANKS.

signseeker17, I didn't understand vmira's post at first either, but I just re-read it and I think he/she means release a pothead who is currently in jail, and replace him with this scumbag. that potheads are less dangerous and will only go after a burrito, instead of shooting up an innocent kid with an AK. but im pretty sure this trash will end up in jail no matter what so i don't think we have to worry about it.

ugh, They still don't know the difference between an AK and a SKS? Journalist never do their homework. It's almost if they say AK-47 for dramatic effect.
