S.C. GOP censures Gov. Sanford over absence, affair

COLUMBIA — Fellow Republicans have censured South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford for leaving the state last month on a secret trip to Argentina to meet his mistress.

The state GOP met for more than three hours by phone tonight before 22 members of the executive committee voted on a formal reprimand of Sanford. Ten voted to ask him to resign, while nine voted to support the governor.

Sanford might have survived a state probe last week into his travel, but plenty of his fellow Republicans say they are still hearing from unhappy constituents.

But the governor, who spent the holiday weekend working to reconcile his marriage in Florida with his wife and four sons, has continually said he will serve his remaining 18 months in office.

Of course SLED didn't find anything, Reggie Lloyd wants to keep his paycheck! SLED works for the Governor, they're obviously not going to find him at fault. Geesh!

Don't let up ppl as Gov Sanford HAS to GO. He has made a mockery of SC and it's high time he paid the price for his actions. Stay on top of your politicians by calling and writing them letting them know Sanford can no longer serve the people after his lies and abandonment of the state.

Does he not see the problem at hand? Our state needs a strong leader and Sanford left that at the door last week. At least the proof he could not lead. Think of it, for the last 3 years he has just been selling low taxes and less goverment. Our goverment has never been larger.
