Safe stolen from Folly Beach restaurant

FOLLY BEACH - Authorities are investigating an early morning burglary at the Rock and Roll Roadhouse Cafe in which thieves cut through the raised floor of the bar and let the safe drop through. It fell about 10 feet to the ground.

Dolly wheel marks in the sand show the safe, weighing some 400 pounds, was carted away on a vehicle.

The thieves are believed to have used electric drills and saws to cut through about two inches of flooring, creating a hole measuring four feet by two feet under the safe in the kitchen area.

The daring crime also required a good bit of balance since to reach the floor, the criminals had to climb up about 10 feet off the ground; there was no sign of scaffolding being used.

A city police officer said there are no suspects at this time.

The bar is on West Ashley Avenue. Lattice work under the bar blocked any view of the thieves from the roadway.

The haul is considered significant because the safe held receipts from the 4th of July holiday weekend.

Dolly wheels? I could understand a truck, since those have tv ads that show them catching huge loads of weight dropped from mid-air all the time. But a dolly, in the sand? Someone had a long night shoving that thing out of there.

That must have taken some time for them to climb ten feet and then drill a hole. You would think someone would have seen them and notified the police?

But I guess the FBPD was just too occupied writing parking tickets.

Oh well. The litter issue doesn't seem to be important so why should this be any different?

well with any luck, the FBPD probably issued this vehicle a ticket for parking under the bldg the wrong way or its tires might of been on the pavement a few inches,

Accurately locating a 2'x4' spot under a building of any size is no easy task. I agree with ColtSW. Somebody on the inside had to provide the measurements or some type of information to make this event happen.

I'll bet they're caught.

iceman1978-
I guess if everyone parked legally, FBPD would have more time for stuff like this...
I don't work for FBPD, but I've heard from them that they receive endless calls about illegal parking. But no citizens called about this one.
