Blaze contained, fire officials say
MYRTLE BEACH — Fire officials near the South Carolina coast said a wildfire has been contained after it burned several acres not far from the area where a fire burned 30 square miles this spring.
Multiple media outlets reported that the fire was contained Wednesday evening after about three hours.
No injuries have been reported.
Horry County Fire Rescue spokesman Todd Cartner said no homes were threatened by the blaze near U.S. 501 and state Highway 31.
Cartner said the fire started when a truck on Highway 31 lost a tire.
The National Weather Service early Thursday canceled a smoke advisory for the area.
The weather service said smoke was not affecting travel.
The fire Wednesday was about six miles from the April fire that destroyed about 75 homes and caused about $25 million in damages.
