Lineman commits to USC

Staff reports
Wednesday, July 1, 2009

Offensive lineman Corey Robinson (6-7, 290) of Havelock, N.C., became South Carolina's 12th football commitment for 2010 on Tuesday, making his pledge to the Gamecocks during a gathering at his school.

"I like the coaches, and there's the chance to play in the SEC with great players," Robinson said. "I didn't know much about them but they are bringing in coach (Eric) Wolford, and he had to come in having proven himself that he can develop players, and I think it will be great to work with him."

Robinson said his commitment will be a firm one.

"If a North Carolina school came calling, I would take a look," he said. "But it wouldn't be a hard look."

USC is Robinson's only offer though he's also drawn interest from North Carolina, N.C. State, East Carolina and Duke. He will play tackle for the Gamecocks. He is the fifth offensive lineman committed in the class.

Only offer, that says it all. Why waste time with the kids that no one else wants? Pat these guys on the head and send them off to JC. Obviously a slow news day.

You're right Ken, people shouldn't have wasted time and a scholarship with Gaines Adams. What was the point of offering him Clemson fans?

ole' blowhard coachk is the "all knowing" of the P&C posters! didn't you know that?!? LOL!

now leave poor coachken alone, the old fart needs to head to wal-mart for his 2nd shift as the front door greeter. . . LOL!

coachken, how did that "lewd act on a minor" at your former school work out for ya? I guess you just got probation ? ? ?

I wonder if coachken has the guts to say something negative about this kid to his face. Doubt it. Walk the walk son......

And if coachken is such a great talent evaluator of talent why has not some major Div I program hired him????

Good point uscsax, every now and then you find a diamond in the rough, but it is rare. Your example goes back to a Clemson decision way back to 2003. Turned out it wasn't a bad gamble. A prep school like Hargrave is a better bet than Havelock NC. Athletes with potential and lacking in accedemic skills are offered the opertunity to WORK and improve both on the field and in the classroom. No comparison with Havelock! Bottom line is core classes and test scores, don't have em go find em. OR waste time and money on "didn't qualify" that was my point. sbs920, you have a sick twisted mind, get a new hobby you are pathetic, remind me of a painful pimple on my buttocks when I was a teenager. notafan, I have coached and helped young atheletes develop, nothing is more rewarding, but no I am a professional engineer, not a full time coach, I opted to make a decent living from the edgucation I earned. I work in VA so don't pretend you know anything about me. Excluding uscsax (knowledgable) you guys swim around the bottom of the tank like dog fish all day waiting for something to snap at. Typical SEC fans.

It would be interesting to know why we're his only offer so far. He's got the size that's for sure. Hopefully he'll work out well. Maybe he's really raw and needs to develop a little more to play D-I ball and that's why he has only gotten interest and no offer from the NC schools. I'm not going to cast judgment either way though until I know more about the kid.
