At least 6 state newspapers say Sanford should resign

COLUMBIA - At least six South Carolina newspapers say Gov. Mark Sanford should resign because of revelations about his affair with a woman in Argentina.
The Greenville News, The Herald-Journal of Spartanburg, The Herald of Rock Hill, the Morning News of Florence, the Aiken Standard and The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg all called on Sanford to resign.
Sanford told The Associated Press Tuesday he had more encounters than previously disclosed with his Argentine "soul mate" and had dalliances with women earlier.
Spartanburg and Orangeburg newspapers earlier had called for Sanford to quit. Spartanburg said Wednesday that Sanford "has squandered the trust South Carolinians had in him."
The Greenville News said Sanford "has destroyed any shred of credibility with his lies unnecessarily added on top of other lies."
An earlier version of this story from The Associated Press mistakenly included The Sumter Item as one of the newspaper's calling for Gov. Sanford's resignation.

He should not be penalized for making a "human" mistake as cheating on his wife. However, when you take personal trips on taxpayers money, that is where the distrust comes in.
If he spent our money doing this, what else has he done that we don't know about? mr. mcmaster is right in calling for an audit of the good old gov!

Why are these newspapers giving their opinions? I thought they were supposed to objecively report the news - - not try to be a part of it.

Sanford has disgraced the office and his commission in the USAFR. Time for him to resign.

Those newspapers' staff are likely expressing those sentiments in their editorial sections, which is handled as a proper and appropriate way for those in charge at a newspaper to argue a position without calling into question the integrity of the newspaper's staff or content.
Journalists are allowed to have opinions after all, as long as they don't let them interfere with their work. Using editorial space is the way to do just that.

IF he stays in office, he needs to forfeit his salary.

The State paper has long ago lost me as a reader. And it is things like backing Sanford that did it for me. They certainly need to bring back some of the old timers who can remember how to report truthful and interesting news. Hate that The Record stopped running decades ago.
