Colleton County church destroyed by fire

SMOAKS — An electrical problem caused a fire that burned down a Lowcountry church early Tuesday morning, according to Colleton County Sheriff George Malone.

Emmanuel Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith at 27771 Low Country Highway in Smoaks burned down about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday. The S.C. Law Enforcement Division's arson unit determined that the church was destroyed by an electrical fire and no arson was involved, Malone said.
