Bicyclist hit, killed in accident
A man on a bicycle was killed when he was hit by a car in Ladson Tuesday night.
The victim was Jose Rodriguez-Porcero, 22, of Mexico, Charleston County Chief Deputy Coroner Judy Koelpin said.
He was hit by a car on U.S. Highway 78 near the fairgrounds shortly before midnight and died at the scene of head injuries, she said.
The victim pulled out in front of the car, and the driver stopped at the scene, she said.

I am REAllY outspoken when it comes to ILLEGALS in this country, and believe each and everyone should be deported.......but it is sad that the only comments posted so far are concerned with the DECEASED immigration status.......
If he was here as a ILLEGAL, or Legal, so what does it matter now? He is DEAD and probably has a family and friends who are in grief and shock.......Our thoughts should be towards them, and not with the status of his "papers"........

strom: My thoughts toward his family are that they should be rounded up and deported if they are here illegally...My desires to see the law enforced are not filth and certainly do not undermine our humanity, quite the opposite! Have a nice day...

Frankly speaking; who cares at this point if he had papers or not....you would assume if he was legal the P&C would have reported him being from Ladson, not Mexico...then again you know what happens when we assume.

I am extremely shocked at some of the comments posted following this article. Our thoughts should be with this man and his family, not on a callous debate regarding his citizenship status. Shame on you.

No doubt, man! How do they get up every morning and face another day with that much shicrap rolling around inside them?
I still have hopes and dreams though, I refuse to allow them to make me see the world through their jaded eyes. I know that we will come together some day as humans, never mind our color or religion (I'll have to do some soul searching myself on religion) or sexual orientation or gender.
Now that is the church I can pray in....how about you?

There have been several Hispanic men killed in this area over the last couple of years to to accidents on the road. Some have been killed crosssing the highway while others have been killed like this guy riding a bike out into traffic and causing his death. The illegals dont seem to want to follow our traffic laws to remain safe. But then again if they were obeying our laws they would not be here.

I just can't gather any satisfaction from the death of somebody. We all have very different opinions on immigration, abortion what have you... but it seems like we could be a little more civil. If you are adamantly opposed to illegal or even legal immigration for that matter as the case may be, convince your neighbors with logic, or write your senator or congressman, but being pleased at the death of somebody, that's psychotic.

I work near the fairgrounds on hwy 78. Last week I decided to walk Burger King for lunch. I wasn't paying much attention as I strolled along until I noticed a tree with some yellow marking tape tied to it showing only the word "SCENE." I didn't pay it much mind and continued on. A couple more steps and there was another piece of yellow ribbon tape; this time I could read the words "CRIME SCENE." I looked ahead and noticed several trees were marked in the same way and about 30 feet in front of me was a large pile of this unwound crime scene tape. I kept walking down the sidewalk with my sights on Burger King, but something caught my attention; it was a bicycle laying about 5 feet off the sidewalk in the trees. It didn't look in too bad a shape except the rear tire and rim were collapsed. Near it were two expended latex surgical gloves. I looked around and saw some fresh orange paint on the road. The most prominent marking was a circle in the middle of the lane with the words "ball cap" painted beside it. It didn't take much to put the pieces together.
Today again decided to walk to Burger King for lunch. I only remembered the area of the accident as I came upon it. Most of the crime scene tape was still present, but the bicycle was gone. In its place a small cross about 18 inches tall draped in flowers. Painted upon it: "J.R.P. 1987 - 2009."
I came to this web page by searching Google for "bicycle death hwy 78 Ladson." I wanted to know the name of the 22 year old with the initials JRP that died on my lunch path. I wanted to know what happened at that scene I stumbled upon. Right now I know very little more than I did before I came to this web page save two things: I know the name of the person who was on that bicycle, and I know how callus and dismissive people can be. A human, not a Mexican human, died suddenly and violently; it's not trivial and it should not be taken lightly.
