Jared Bednar led the Stingrays to the Kelly Cup title this past season.

Cail MacLean, who served as the team's assistant coach this past season, will be named the Stingrays new head coach at a press conference on Thursday.

"It's not official, but it's a done deal," the source said.

Bednar has been with the Stingrays organization since 1995 as a player, assistant coach and head coach.

In two seasons as the head coach, Bednar compiled an 89-45-9 mark and led the Stingrays to the franchise's third Kelly Cup title this season. He led the Stingrays to a franchise-record 47 wins during his first season as head coach.

Bednar was the first player in ECHL history to have his name on the Kelly Cup three times. Bednar won Kelly Cup titles in 1997 and 2001 as a player.

MacLean, 32, played more than a decade in the ECHL and AHL. He spent the last three seasons of his career with the Stingrays from 2005-08. He served as the team's captain in his final two campaigns. In 169 games with the Stingrays, MacLean had 63 goals and 74 assists.

Abbotsford, near Vancouver, British Columbia, is the affiliate of the NHL's Calgary Flames.

Great choice for Abbotsford. I hate to see the Wash Capitals organization pass on promoting him. Good luck to Cail.
