Walterboro man killed in wreck
GREEN POND — A 36-year-old Walterboro man died early Saturday after he crashed his motorcycle into a tree along U.S. Highway 17.
A witness told authorities that at about 5:30 a.m., David Gene Mills was riding north on the highway near S.C. Highway 303 when he lost control. It was raining at the time, and Mills veered off the road and into a tree, Highway Patrol Cpl. Paul Brouthers said. Mills wasn't wearing a helmet.
Colleton County Coroner Richard Harvey said Mills owned a siding company and was heading home from Savannah. He said Mills died of multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
